We are excited about the happenings of the last couple of weeks. March 13 was the first AMA District 18 race. Unfortunately, this date fell not only on our wedding anniversary, but also on the day our home church was hosting the world-wide abstinence tour, "The Silver Ring Thing". Weeks before, we made the easy decision that support of our 14 year old daughter's involvement with this tour, far out ranked our need to race motocross - we would not go racing. Besides, this was one of the few track that we had been advised that we would not likely be able to get any public prayer/devotion time. Instead of packing to leave Saturday morning, we lounged about, found a babysitter for our anniversary dinner, and then I went to walk my small home practice track to counter the MX withdrawal symptoms and contemplate our anniversary dinner plans. My wife was thinking at the same time and but was questioning our decision. Not the decision to support our daughter, rather our thought process in making this an either/or decision. Why couldn't we do both? We could hope to have an early moto, for races to run smoothly, limited intermission, and no injuries occurring, the we could rush back 2 hours, 45 minutes and be home by 6 p.m. "Yeah right, we have been to too many races to think that will happen", changed to "well maybe", and then "we can try". We loaded in record time and took out for the track. Fast forward in time....
- We were able get to the track without forgetting anything.
- We were granted the 3rd of 19 motos
- We were welcomed and allowed to discuss FCA and pray over the public address system.
- We were able to do well in the motos.
- We were able to connect with some great people who have been part of FCA MX Camps.
- We were able to leave immediately after the second moto and make it straight to church with 6 minutes to spare.
The only problem with this story is our use of "We". Reminds me of the Geico commercial with the little pig Maxwell crying "wee" all the way home. We were really were not in control of much of this weekend. Yes, "we" drove the RV and rode the bike, but God opened the doors and gave us this opportunity to connect with people. It was certainly His direction that allowed us to represent the Christian presence within MX, complete both motos, and leave a track before 3 p.m. to support our daughter in this formidable time of her life. How many other times do "we" think and determine what is not feasible? Discernment is imperative, but don't forget to seek God's direction. "We" almost forgot the listening and it truly would have been an opportunity lost.
