FCA MX was pleased to again provide the opportunity for early entry into the event. Early entry allowed those attending to observe the initial track walk by the competing riders and hear the Chapel Service. This year's service was delivered by Shawn Clark. Shawn spoke about God's answers to our prayers. All riders when lining up at the gate may say a prayer in hopes of winning, but there will only be one "yes" answer to those requests. Prayer alone does not guarantee the desired results. All riders, other than the winner, who prayed, even sincerely, received a "no" answer. God's will for our life does not meaning winning every race. We are challenged to determine and then consideration of God's will in our lives when making our requests.

March 13 was the first AMA District 18 race. Unfortunately, this date fell not only on our wedding anniversary, but also on the day our home church was hosting the world-wide abstinence tour, "The Silver Ring Thing". Weeks before, we made the easy decision that support of our 14 year old daughter's involvement with this tour, far out ranked our need to race motocross - we would not go racing. Besides, this was one of the few track that we had been advised that we would not likely be able to get any public prayer/devotion time. Instead of packing to leave Saturday morning, we lounged about, found a babysitter for our anniversary dinner, and then I went to walk my small home practice track to counter the MX withdrawal symptoms and contemplate our anniversary dinner plans. My wife was thinking at the same time and but was questioning our decision. Not the decision to support our daughter, rather our thought process in making this an either/or decision. Why couldn't we do both? We could hope to have an early moto, for races to run smoothly, limited intermission, and no injuries occurring, the we could rush back 2 hours, 45 minutes and be home by 6 p.m. "Yeah right, we have been to too many races to think that will happen", changed to "well maybe", and then "we can try". We loaded in record time and took out for the track. Fast forward in time....

We were able get to the track without forgetting anything.

We were granted the 3rd of 19 motos

We were welcomed and allowed to discuss FCA and pray over the public address system.

We were able to do well in the motos.

We were able to connect with some great people who have been part of FCA MX Camps.

We were able to leave immediately after the second moto and make it straight to church with 6 minutes to spare.

The only problem with this story is our use of "We". Reminds me of the Geico commercial with the little pig Maxwell crying "wee" all the way home. We were really were not in control of much of this weekend. Yes, "we" drove the RV and rode the bike, but God opened the doors and gave us this opportunity to connect with people. It was certainly His direction that allowed us to represent the Christian presence within MX, complete both motos, and leave a track before 3 p.m. to support our daughter in this formidable time of her life. How many other times do "we" think and determine what is not feasible? Discernment is imperative, but don't forget to seek God's direction. "We" almost forgot the listening and it truly would have been an opportunity lost.

Are You Ready?

End of February in Missouri - it is likely wishful thinking to believe that spring has arrived. However, one certainty is that after a long winter, motocross season is upon us. Like too many other years, it seems that this has somehow caught us unprepared. Yes, dates have been on the calendar, but that does not mean we are ready. With the first race less than a week away, we finally had new tires, needed since last summer, installed on the RV. Even though it was purchased last early fall, the fun of installing a new rear tire on the bike was put off until last night. And oh, that front trailer hitch needed to pull the RV through 8” of mud in “less than ideal racing conditions” was planned this time last year, but has not yet been ordered. What about physical fitness…working out these last two weeks (and wrestling a bike tire install) will not ensure the physical fitness needed for motos. These examples are less than proud moments of preparedness. We know that we should have been better prepared. How prepared are you for the motocross season? The even more important question is how prepared are we spiritually for everyday life? Does the busyness of life keep you from being prepared? Life, as we are accustomed, can be changed in the blink of an eye. Too often we are unprepared with known schedules, how do we deal with the unknown schedule God has for us? We are truly blessed. We have a loving God that has given us another day to become spiritually prepared. It is our choice if we take the opportunity, or risk not being ready. I challenge you to take the steps to get ready and stay ready for all which God has in store for you this year.
