WEEK 1

- GOD MADE IT -

This week’s discussion is from episode #75 of our podcast, The Gospel Driven Athlete, titled “God Made It” and the goal of this week is for us to look at the creation account and also what we would call the “proofs of God.” We will also look at whether or not science backs up a Biblical account of creation. We hope you are encouraged this week and that you come to a fuller understanding of the person and work of Jesus Christ.

WEEK 2

- GOD IS ONE -

This week’s discussion is from episode #77 of our podcast, The Gospel Driven Athlete, titled “God Is One” and the goal of this week is for us to look at the doctrine of the Trinity. The Trinity has been a hot topic for centuries in the church. It is a fascinating doctrine that in many ways goes above and beyond what our finite brains can comprehend. Simply put, God the Father redeemed us by Sending God the son to live and die for us and the reality of the gospel is made known to us and creates faith in our hearts by the power of the Holy Spirit whom God also sent as our helper. What God does, He does in the Son, by the Spirit. The three can all be said to be God, and yet all are unique.

WEEK 3

- WHERE DID ALL THIS SIN COME FROM? -

This week’s discussion is based upon episode #79 of our podcast "The Gospel Driven Athlete", titled "Where Did All This Sin Come From?"  This week we are looking into the fact that we all sin, we all mess up.  But why?  Why do we sin and what can we do about it?  Thankfully, the Bible is very clear about this topic and today we see that nothing we do catches God off guard, He has had a plan from the beginning for each and every one of us.

WEEK 4

- WAS JESUS REALLY WHO HE SAID HE WAS? -

This week’s discussion is from episode #39 of our podcast, The Gospel Driven Athlete, titled “Is Jesus Really Who He Said He Is?” In this week’s bible study, we will look into whether or not Jesus is who he said he is or not. This is a great topic and foundational to the Christian faith. C.S Lewis once said that Jesus was either a liar, lunatic or Lord. Come to this week’s bible study and see what the bible says about who Jesus is.

WEEK 7

- EASTER - THE ALMOST FUNERAL -

This week’s discussion is based upon episode #44 of our podcast “The Gospel Driven Athlete”, titled “Easter- The Almost Funeral” This is one of the most essential pieces of our faith in Christ- His resurrection. We will look at exactly why it mattered that Christ did not stay dead, but instead was resurrected.

WEEK 8

- Assurance -

This week’s discussion is based upon episode #98 of our podcast “The Gospel Driven Athlete” titled, “Assurance.” Assurance is having confidence and certainty about something. To have assurance of something, you know that it is true and trustworthy. Having assurance of God’s Grace and your salvation is having confidence that in Christ, God’s Grace is sufficient, and our Salvation is sealed. The enemy loves to cause us to question and doubt but we can be confident in our salvation, not because of anything we have or haven’t done, but because of Christ’s perfect obedience on our behalf and His sacrificial death in our place.

WEEK 9

- My Just Wrath Spent on Christ -

This week’s discussion is based upon episode #7 of our podcast “The Gospel Driven Athlete”, titled “My Just Wrath Spent on Christ”

Have you ever broken a rule and justice was served? In other words, did you get what you deserved? We have all broken the good rules and laws that God has set for us to follow. The truth of the matter is, we cannot fulfill all of these laws perfectly, and consequently, we stand condemned and liable for our inability to meet God’s requirements. We deserve the punishment that the Creator God has specified. That’s the bad news... but it doesn’t end there. This week we are going to dive deeper into the scandalously good news of the gospel that tells us that while God is completely just, and we are completely deserving of punishment for our inability to keep the law, Christ fulfilled these laws for us on our behalf and took our punishment in our place.New Paragraph

WEEK 10

- Christ's Perfect Obedience on Our Behalf -

This week’s discussion is based upon episode #5 of our podcast “The Gospel Driven Athlete”, titled “Christ’s Perfect Obedience on Our Behalf.” This week we will look at what exactly Christ accomplished for us. Was it enough that Christ died in our place? Or, did He in fact have to do more than simply die? What made His death matter?New Paragraph

WEEK 11

- Too Good to Be True-

This week’s discussion is based upon episode #74 of our podcast “The Gospel Driven Athlete” titled, “Too Good to Be True.” This week we are talking about how the gospel is actually quite unnatural for us as humans. We are going to discuss why this observation (or fact really) is why the gospel is such incredible news for us and how it allows us to rest fully in the accomplished work of Christ rather than our own work or accomplishments.New Paragraph

WEEK 12

- Why Christ's Perfect Life is Good News-

This week’s discussion is based upon episode #84 of our podcast “The Gospel Driven Athlete” titled, “Why Christ’s Perfect Life is Good News”. This week, we are going to look at how Christ’s life and death are vital for our justification (right standing) before God. While often the importance of Christ’s sacrificial death on the cross on our behalf is clearly communicated, many times the necessity and importance of Christ’s perfect life is never even mentioned. This week we want to look at why the life Christ lived was equally as important as His death and actually gave His death ultimate significance for us today. This is a profound topic that ties all the way back in to our discussion on the covenants and that has direct and real impact on our lives as Christians.New Paragraph

WEEK 13

- How God Relates to Man-

This week’s discussion is based upon episode #61 of our podcast "The Gospel Driven Athlete" titled, "Covenant Theology- How God relates to Man." This week we are digging a little deeper to understand a few things better. If you don't know what a covenant is, or what theology is, don't worry, we will explain as we go. If you are wondering why it is important to study this stuff, we need to know what we believe and why we believe it. We will never know even close to everything about God, but the more we understand His Word the stronger our faith will become because we will see more and more who God is and how good He is. We look deeper to grow closer to the Creator who has chosen to save us by His Son.New Paragraph

WEEK 14

- Two Ways to be Saved?-

This week’s discussion is based upon episode #103 of our podcast “The Gospel Driven Athlete” titled, “Two Covenants. Two Ways to Be Saved?” This week we are going to look at the two main covenants found in the bible and explore the question of whether or not these two covenants actually present us with two different possible ways to be saved. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of covenants, that’s ok! In brief- covenants are relationships that God establishes with us that are guaranteed by His Word. The two covenants that we are going to talk about this week are known as the “Covenant of Works” and “The Covenant of Grace.” The Covenant of Works was originally established with Adam in the Garden and it promised eternal life to Adam and all mankind- if and only if- Adam obeyed God perfectly, and it promised death and suffering to Adam and all mankind, if Adam disobeyed at any point. The Covenant of Grace on the other hand, lies in in stark contrast to the Covenant of Works and is the covenant through which all believers are actually saved. This covenant is a covenant that God Himself not only establishes and guarantees by His Word, but that God bases upon Christ’s obedience, rather than upon man’s obedience. God essentially says, “I will be your God, and you will be my people. Regardless.”

WEEK 15

- For Our Sake-

This week’s discussion is based upon episode #2 of our podcast “The Gospel Driven Athlete” titled, “For Our Sake,” and we will be exploring the things we must DO to be saved. Is it a complex issue? A step by step program? Or, can it be as easy as a one step process? Let’s find out together this week.New Paragraph

WEEK 16

-Taste and See-

So far, throughout most of our weekly Bible study topics this year, we’ve been talking about specific important doctrines of our faith and how understanding these doctrines actually helps us understand and know who God is. These specific biblical doctrines help us know God rightly so that we can worship Him rightly. Additionally, we’ve seen how incredibly important it is to know what we believe, why we believe it, and we’ve seen how theology is simply the part of worship that involves our mind... This week, while we aren’t talking about a specific doctrine per say, we will still be talking about doctrine, just in a little different way. We will be taking a look at Psalm 34 and the language we see there of “Taste and See”. Since God is not simply an idea to discuss, a philosophy to live by, or a model for moral living for us to copy... since He is real and personal and wants us to know Him in a real, personal way, it is helpful to talk about our personal experience with God, and the experience that we see people in Scripture have with God.
